Our Story
Nurtured by family, dedicated to soil restoration.
Our family started Girija Farm Fresh with a shared conviction: true health begins with taking care of the soil and giving back to nature. Nestled in the Western Ghats of Amba, Kolhapur, we are four family members who transitioned our land into a sustainable permaculture farm, removing all chemicals and introducing closed-loop organic practices.
Why we chose this path
We chose this path to show that farming can actively heal the environment. By managing everything ourselves and bypassing commercial supply chains, we ensure that every jar of ghee and spice pouch represents an honest, transparent connection to our living soil.
Our Mission at Girija Farm
We run our land in Amba with a clear, direct calling: to restore the soil, protect natural purity, and inspire a slower, more mindful way of living.
To practice sustainable farming that nurtures the land and future generations.
To preserve and enrich soil fertility, ensuring healthy and resilient crops.
To bring pure, farm-to-table products, free from adulteration and middlemen.
To promote a peaceful, balanced lifestyle, in harmony with nature.
To inspire people to move beyond the rat race and embrace mindful living.
Our Core Principles
The three ethics of permaculture.
We guide our daily work and decisions in Amba by the core ethics of permaculture, ensuring our actions restore the earth and support our community.
Earth Care
Rebuilding soil biology, conserving rainwater, and welcoming native flora and fauna to restore and preserve our land's natural health.
Permaculture Ethic
People Care
Cultivating nutrient-dense, chemical-free food to support the health and well-being of our family and our customer community.
Permaculture Ethic
Fair Share
Limiting our footprint, taking only what we need, and reinvesting harvest surpluses back into planting trees and giving back to nature.

How We Treat the Land
Our philosophy is simple: we are caretakers, not exploiters, of the earth. We practice permaculture—designing zones that mimic natural forest dynamics, harvesting rainwater, and encouraging wild pollinators so that our farm can self-regulate and flourish.
Our Vision for the Future
We want to leave this land richer, deeper, and more fertile than we found it. Through our slow, traditional methods, we aim to share the benefits of a balanced ecosystem directly with your family.
Permaculture in Practice
How we interact with our environment.
We do not apply synthetic inputs or chemical shortcuts. Here is how we design our land to recharge, fertilize, and sustain itself naturally.
Soil Stewardship
We focus on feeding the soil, not the plants. Using rich vermicompost, cover cropping, and dry-leaf mulching, we increase soil biology and water retention naturally.
Benefits Achieved
- Enriches soil microbiome
- Retains moisture longer
- Prevents soil erosion
Water Management
We shape the land with contour bunds, swales, and rain trenches. This slows, spreads, and sinks monsoon rain directly into the groundwater table.
Benefits Achieved
- Recharges groundwater table
- Sustains crops in dry summers
- Prevents topsoil washaway
Polyculture Forestry
Instead of monocultures, we mimic a natural forest. Tall canopy trees shelter black pepper vines, while cover crops protect the floor, producing a resilient ecosystem.
Benefits Achieved
- Natural pest deterrence
- Optimized space utilization
- Diverse crop yield
Zero Chemical Runoff
No chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are ever introduced. We use fermented plant extracts (Neem, Dashparni) to repel pests without harming pollinators.
Benefits Achieved
- Preserves clean groundwater
- Protects bees and earthworms
- Ensures pure, residue-free harvest
